Those who engage in sport and physical activity are less likely to feel lonely than those who are inactive. Local sports clubs and activity groups are community hubs; places where people of different ages and backgrounds, who may otherwise never meet, come together through a shared passion. The economic value of this community-building and social trust has been estimated at over £14 billion. Whoever you are, or wherever you live there should be good facilities, a strong network of sports clubs that are open to you, great sport and physical activity opportunities in schools, and confidence in sport and the sector. This strategy sets out how we will respond to these challenges, to ensure that the sport and physical activity sector remains vibrant and relevant in the years to come. It builds on the strong foundations we already have in this country, and sets out how we, as government and the wider sector, can come together to tackle today’s challenges and make the most of future opportunities.

Our wellbeing support is practical, and sustainable helping partners with the ‘how’ to do it as well as the ‘what’. We spoke to over 150 experts in a range of fields in focus groups, group meetings and one to one engagements.
